This is a very lovely area and the temples are very cool, they’ve been restored and they’re in very nice condition. They’re very well preserved and maintained; there’s lots to do and see in and around this area. I really enjoyed my time here and I would definitely recommend visiting this area and the surrounding sites.

The Forum Boarium was the cattle market of ancient Rome. It is the site of the Temple of Portunus, the round Temple of Hercules Victor, and the Fountain of the Tritons (Baroque, 1715). Across the street is the Basilica of St Mary in Cosmedin, with its Romanesque tower.

Temple of Hercules. Ancient Roman that was made of Greek marble.Located in the Forum Boarium on the eastern bank of the Tiber, it is one of the oldest extant buildings in the city and is thought to be the work of the Greek architect Hermodoros of Salamina.

The Forum Boarium (pronounced "Bo-arium" not "Bore-ium", Italian: Foro Boario) was the cattle forum venalium of Ancient Rome. It was located on a level piece of land near the Tiber between the Capitoline, the Palatine and Aventine hills. As the site of the original docks of Rome (Portus Tiberinus), the Forum Boarium experienced intense commercial activity. The Forum Boarium was the site of the first gladiatorial contest at Rome which took place in 264 BC as part of aristocratic funerary ritual—a munus or funeral gift for the dead. Marcus and Decimus Junius Brutus Scaeva put on a gladiatorial combat in honor of their deceased father with three pairs of gladiators. The site was also a religious centre housing the Temple of Hercules Victor, the Temple of Portunus (Temple of Fortuna Virilis), and the massive 6th or 5th century BC Great Altar of Hercules.
